Genesis 1,2 is the basis for Science instruction. From the Creation account we find the 10 basic Science categories:
- Botany - the science of plants (v.11-13)
- Astronomy - the science of the heavens (v. 6-8; 14-19)
- Zoology - the science of animals, birds and fish (v. 20-25)
- Anatomy - the science of human structure (v. 26, 2:7)
- Physiology - the science of human function (v. 27, 28)
- Geology - the science of earth formations (v. 1, 9, 10)
- Chemistry - the science of elements (v. 3)
- Physics - the science of movement (v. 20)
- Meteorology - the science of weather (v. 7, 2:6)
- Oceanography - the science of the seas (v. 7, 20-23)
Kindergarten introduces all ten sciences to give an overview of the completeness of God's provision and make children aware of the variety of areas to observe, experiment and experience what God has made for us to enjoy and take care of. Notebook with posters and hands-on activity for each science.
Grade 1: Classifying God's World goes more in depth with Botany, Astronomy, Zoology, Anatomy, Physiology. The book, Seven Days of Creation, covers knowing the difference between experiment and observation.
Grade 2: focuses on Geology, Chemistry, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Physics; See internal and external qualities.
Grade 3: presents detailed units on Astronomy (earth model), Zoology, Anatomy (life size paper model with organs) and Physiology.
Grade 4: revisits Meteorology, Oceanography, and Botany. Through the health course of study they also cover Skeletal, Muscular, Respiratory and Skin systems thus investigating phases of Anatomy and Physiology again.
Grade 5: gives in-depth study to Physics, Chemistry, geology and through the health curriculum delves into the Circulatory and Digestive system.
Grade 6: studies Earth Sciences-Earthquakes and Volcanoes; Zoology in the form of habitat study; Astronomy with a brief view of heavenly bodies and more emphasis on space exploration. In Human Biology there is the study of cells and growth as well as an emphasis on Anatomy in the Health curriculum (including specific systems); Chemistry.
Grades 7-8: alternate study every other year. Even years they do Life Sciences (plant and animal life) - Botany, Zoology and Oceanography as it pertains to life forms in the ocean. Odd years they delve into Physical Science - Chemistry (scientific method experiments, keeping records, lab notebook development), Geology, Physics (magnetism, matter and motion), Meteorology, Creation Model of Genesis 1 (creation vs. evolution) and Oceanography. The health curriculum deals with social, spiritual and mental health more than anatomy and body system functions.
