As with many
citizens all over the area, Emmaus Middle School students and teachers alike
were concerned for those who were devastated by the recent flooding.
Friday, December 7th they agreed to close the Middle School and
all 43 students along with teachers and parent-helpers loaded up supplies
and tools and traveled to Vernonia and Gaston to help in the clean up.
"All year we
learn about serving those in our community," said eighth grade student and
student council president Elizabeth Rice. "We even have a community
service class at school that makes regular time to help others inside and
outside our school. But after the flood, we felt like we needed to
really do something real for our neighbors and friends."
